We have two special software programs that run on all four of the Assistive Computers (The area near the Ask Us Desk has 2 workstations – PC 46 and PC 47 and Media has 2 computers – PC 38 and PC 39)

Zoom Text--This program magnifies the desktop screen and runs automatically when a student has signed in to the computer.

Kurzweil--This program can talk to a student and has other special features like highlighting words as they are spoken by a computerized voice. It can read Web-based pages, digital or scanned print materials. These programs are designed for students with visual impairments.

There is also a Desktop Electronic Magnifier for Low Vision (affectionately named Merlin in the ER on PC-46) --Students can place a book on the surface and see it magnified on the screen.

Both workstations are height adjustable. If you need information about assistive
technology on campus, please contact Disability Services at (361)825-5816
or room 116 in Corpus Christi Hall.
